As business grows, so too do administrative tasks. Many businesses are choosing to outsource these jobs in order to improve efficiency and free up some of their own time. Virtual assistants are freelance administrative assistants who work from their own homes, running virtual offices on behalf of their clients.
Although the virtual administrative assistance concept is still fairly new to the business community, there are thousands of happy home-based virtual assistants around the world and the demand is only growing. Today, more and more business are realizing the value of homesourcing their administrative needs, leading to the creation of this exciting industry.
It’s a career that promises variety, daily challenges and the freedom and flexibility to be your own boss. It’s no wonder the industry is growing in popularity!
Am I qualified?
Of course, before you start any new venture, you need to determine if you have what it takes. Unfortunately, having a computer and a telephone won’t make you a top-notch virtual assistant. Administrative roles can be demanding, so any previous experience in the fields of administration or customer service will definitely help you out.
You will need access to all the necessary equipment as well. An updated computer, high-speed Internet connection, headset, fax machine and reliable back-up system are among the basic requirements for most companies. Sorry Mac users, it should be noted that PCs are generally favored in most virtual assistant positions (although you can always get Windows on your Mac). Certain companies and clients will require additional equipment and specifics so it is always best to check before applying.
If you have all this (and you’re an organized, attentive and detail-oriented superstar), then we have great news: you’re more than qualified to be a virtual assistant!
