Demand Media is a publicly traded online content provider with openings for work-from-home freelance writers, filmmakers and copy editors. Demand Media owns diverse online content brands including eHow, Livestrong.com and Cracked.com. Demand Media specializes in identifying topics with high consumer demand and strong advertising potential. The company then engages its freelance contractors to create content tailored to these optimized topics for consumption on its own websites or on other popular venues such as YouTube.
Content providers are freelance contractors who must be at least 18 years old and reside in the U.S., Canada or the U.K. Registration is free, and freelancers must consent to the terms of the contributor’s agreement. This includes assigning Demand Media Studios sole rights to content in most cases. Bloggers retain rights to their posts, and Talent and Expert Program contributors are granted a byline and the limited right to use content for personal portfolio purposes.
Demand Media pays freelancers through residual revenue sharing or upfront fee payments depending on the job. For example, blogs and potentially high-traffic article topics earn residual income for authors over time, while other article topics, copyediting jobs, video projects and title selection and editing jobs generate flat-fee payments for freelancers. Flat-fee compensation is paid twice per week while residual income is paid monthly. All payments are made through PayPal.
